Who is Gideon?
Gideon is my plus sized furry kitty son who wandered into my life,
completely uninvited, in May of 1995.  From the day I met him, he
has been the most important person in my life (all sentient
creatures having personhood in my world).  He started sleeping in
my hair the night I got him, and still does today.  Shortly after I
adopted Gideon, I adopted his 'brother' Seth (Gideon never knew
they were not really related) - they were great friends for 11 years
and did everything together.
After his brother died, Gideon got very depressed and I got worried
about him.  After considering his weight, arthritis, my 6 foot fence,
and his general demeanor, I made the decision to let Gideon walk
around outside so he could 'talk' with the feral cats that mooch off
of me.  This turned out to be exactly what he wanted - he asks to go
outside to sit in the sun (or the dark - he just likes it outside) several
times a day.  I was watching him sitting one day and came up with
the name for my business - he just seems to have the peace
everyone wants sitting out there in his garden.

(By the way, after Seth died, Gideon realized that he is not
immortal, which quite surprised him - after some discussion he
conceded that it would be best for me and him if a couple of kittens
were brought into his life so he could teach them proper human
training techniques before he goes back to the spirit world).  Hence,
Michael the cat (not the person I know) and Jeremy have come to
live with me.  While Gideon wants me to think he just tolerates
them, I've caught them cuddling, grooming, and playing when they
think I'm not paying attention)

Gideon was diagnosed with cancer in
2004, so all my plans to make him a
fitter, trimmer kitty flew out the window.
This last Christmas when I started
thinking about kittens for some reason, I
assumed Gideon was preparing me for
his death - but it turned out I picked the
wrong cat - Seth was diagnosed with
massive intestinal cancer on Valentines
Day of 2006 (I have a long unpleasant
history with this holiday - everyone was
surprised by this date except me).  He
was euthanized on 2/16/06 - and Michael
(the person, not the cat) was there for
me and I was there for Seth and it was
as peaceful as that sort of thing can be.
